Pink Jewels
by
Arthur W. Pink
This book is entitled Pink Jewels
because it consists of various articles that appeared in Pinks
magazine, Studies in the Scriptures. So many fine, but relatively
short, discussions in his 33 volumes are contained in the magazines, yet
they are like buried gems of wisdom so far as the modern-day reader is
concerned. That is the reason for this selection of pertinent articles
being collected into this one volume.
The first 53 pages represent continuous
articles that cover the subject of conversion, the great change wrought,
the new heart imparted to the new creature, the fact that God works in His
new-born to do good works: "For we are His workmanship, created in
Christ Jesus, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them"
(Eph. 2:10).
This is followed by a discussion of the
remaining corruption, which the Apostle Paul reveals in Romans 7,
finishing with this wonderful hope: "O wretched man [that] I [am]!
Who shall deliver me from this body of death? I t hank God through Jesus
Christ our Lord" (Rom. 7:24, 25).
Then there are five articles on
"Enjoying Gods Best," covering 39 pages. What is it, this
enjoying Gods best? "For the saint to have daily communion with
God, to walk in the light of His countenance, or His Word to be sweet to
our taste, light to our understanding, strength to the inner man. It is
for prayer to be a delight, for answers of peace to be received without
intermission, for the channel of supplies to remain unchoked, open. It is
to have the mind stayed on Him, to have a conscience void of offence, to
have full assurance of our acceptance in Christ. It is for our graces to
be kept healthy and vigorous, so that faith, hope, love, meekness,
patience, zeal, are in daily exercise. Such should be the experience of
every Christian.
There are separate articles on Sleepy
Saints, on Heart Work, the Power of God, Evangelical Obedience, on Private
Judgment, on The Doctrine of Mortification, the Supremacy of God, The
Christians Armor, and, lastly, Saving Faith. These will aid the saints
to "grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ"
(2 Peter 3:18)
Pink was a Baptist Preacher in England,
Australia, and the United States. He is most famous for his book The
Sovereignty of God. But it was his now famous monthly magazine, Studies
in the Scriptures which is the source of all his other books. Each
book was written monthly, 24 pages at a time
