World History - A Christian Interpretation, Albert Hyma, hard cover

Product Information

n a day when most history books and textbooks
are written with a secular bias, this book
by Albert Hyma is clearly refreshing. While it
does not contain the very most recent history, it
covers history up to 1939 very well. It does not
contain the Anti-Christian bias that is so common
in books today. Hyma, at the time we met
him in 1964 was a full professor of history at
the University of Michigan.
''The author is trying to fill the urgent demand
on the part of devout Christian parents
who feel that their children need not any longer
be exposed to a pagan or at least a materialized
conception of world history. Although no proof
has been found for the evolutionary account of
early man and his environment, practically all
the textbooks now in use take for granted that t
he Biblical narrative is entirely false and that t
he Christian religion is based on legends. It has
been a source of great disappointment to many
Christian educators to observe how our public
schools have gradually adopted paganized versions
of world history.
There are 60 chapters in this book, beginning
with the Creation and the Fall of Man. He
proceeds from Eden to the Flood. He gives the
story of ancient Babylonia, then the story of ancient
Egypt the Hebrews, the Phoenicians, the
Assyrian empire, the Babylonians, the civilization
reached Europe, and the Age of Greece from
50i0 to 150 B.C. The story of the Roman Republic,
Christianity expanded and conquering the
Greek and Roman Worlds, the barbarians, the
Frankish empire, the middle ages, the dawn of
modern civilization began in the 13th and 14th
centuries, how the western world is being prepared for the Reformation, the transformation of Germany, Holland, Switzerland followed, resulting in religious wars with the Catholics. France became the leader of the nations, succeeding Spain, both victims of English naval power, how Prussia and Russia became great powers, the ''Enlightenment,'', the overthrow of royalty, the era of Napoleon. Liberalism, Nationalism and Socialism were born. Trade and industry expanded greatly in Great Britain and France.

Western civilization in the 19th century, followed by European imperialism, World War, Turmoil in the Orient, the power of the United States faced many problems before they entered World War II. and lastly, the transition from war to peace, 20th century civilization began. There is an extensive index.

Hyma has no particular view to promote. Generally, it is a useful history that counters the lies that pass for world history in today’s textbooks.  476 pages, blue hard cover
